Data Intelligence Service dataflow
The Data Intelligence Service (DIS) transforms raw data into assets of intelligence that enable factual business decisions. The figure illustrates how data is processed between the components of the DIS at an overview level.
Components | Description |
---|---|
Snow Inventory Agents and Oracle Scanners | Computers and servers in the IT environment are inventoried by the Snow Inventory Agents and the Snow Inventory Oracle Scanners. Any unrecognized software is automatically sent as raw data to the DIS team for analysis. For more information on Snow Inventory Agents, see Snow Inventory Agents. |
Snow Integration Manager | The Snow Integration Connectors integrate with third-party inventory solutions and virtualization technologies to collect inventory data. The data is then gathered in Snow Integration Manager. Any unrecognized software is automatically sent as raw data to the DIS team for analysis. For more information on Snow Integration Manager, see Snow Integration Manager. |
Containers | Container data extracted from the repositories of vendors such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and RedHat is sent to the DIS database. DIS then maps the application to the containers from the repositories. |
NIST NVD | National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) maintains the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) that is used by Risk Monitor to identify vulnerabilities. DIS assigns these vulnerabilities to the relevant applications within the DIS database. |
SaaS connectors | SaaS connectors collect usage and subscription data from vendors of SaaS services.
|
Data Intelligence Service | After receiving the unrecognized software to the DIS database, the DIS team creates recognition, normalization, and categorization for commercially available software applications. The team is also responsible for populating the software applications with additional values of lifecycle dates, SKUs, and GDPR information. The DIS team manages customer tickets and maintains quality control of the DIS database on a regular basis. To create DIS related queries or tickets, go to https://community.snowsoftware.com/s/create-dis-form on Snow Globe. Note: You must sign in to Snow Globe to access the DIS form via the link. |
Snow applications and services | The data recognized by the DIS database is sent to the Snow applications and cloud services. See the details for the respective applications and services in Snow License Manager, Risk Monitor, Containers, SaaS, SAM Core, and Snow Atlas. New or updated application recognition rules are downloaded daily by the Snow Update Service. For more information on Snow Update Service, see Snow Update Service. |
note
Cloud applications are not included in the inventoried data. They are added to the DIS database based on requests received from customers and on research done by the DIS team.
