Role management examples

These are examples of how you can use role management in External access to control the access granted to your Snow Atlas system, to users authorized by your partner.

You can configure role management when you set up external access for a partner, or edit their external access. For more information, see Set up external access or Edit external access. These examples describe how to configure the Role management part of external access.

Example: No permissions by default

You want to ensure that when your partner authorizes users to access your Snow Atlas system, they have no permissions in your system by default, until you assign permissions.

  1. In Role management, turn on the Role management toggle.

  2. Leave Role assignment empty.

Authorized users who are listed but have no roles assigned to them have no permissions in your Snow Atlas system.

  3. Select Confirm.

When you want to grant permissions to specific users later, you can edit the external access instance. For more information, see Edit external access.

Example: Default roles and specific roles

You want the majority of users authorized by your partner to have the same default role, but some specific users will have a different role. In this example, the default role is Viewer, and the role for 1 or 2 specific users is Administrator. When you assign specific roles to specific users in Users with access, you replace the default roles selected in Role assignment for those specific users.

  1. In Role management, turn on the Role management toggle.

  2. In Role assignment, select the roles that you want to assign to the majority of the authorized users, in this case, Viewer.

  3. In Users with access, select the users to whom you want to assign a different role, in this case, Administrator.

  4. Select Actions, and then Manage roles.

  5. In Manage roles, select Administrator, then Confirm.

  6. To save your entries, select Confirm.
